DIME Denver caught up with one of our newest students Xavier Robinson, who is studying the Commercial Music Performance (Drums) degree program.
What is your background in music and education?
I started getting really into music and creating music when I first started actually playing drums. That was about 5 years ago in a high school band.
How did you find out about DIME Denver?
What made you choose to apply to study with us?
I didn’t jump straight from high school to college because I didn’t want to waste time studying something I didn’t care about and I found out that DIME can give you years of experience in a BA degree.
What are your short and/or longer term academic and career goals?
To graduate, to learn, become a disciplined musician, meet friends and musical connections.
What do you find most rewarding about your studies so far?
Fully immersing myself with others who have similar goals in life. I play shows and write songs with Gestalt and DIME has already impacted on both.
What do you find most challenging about your studies and how do you plan to overcome that challenge?
Homework! Umm… schedule time to study and do homework for classes before the day they’re due.
Who are some of your music / industry / entrepreneurial influences?
Mike Balzari, Quincy Jones, Tosin Abasi, Matt Garstka, John Bonham, Buddy Rich, Dave Grohl, Victor Wooten, Vinnie Caluita, Steve Gadd, Thomas Pridgen, SRV, Freddy King, BB King, Ben Howard, Bob Marley, Chad Smith.
Xavier can be found around town playing with his band Gestalt, in venues such as The Moon Room, Seventh Circle, The Hangars, Lost Lake and Globe Hall. Gestalt’s 6 track EP is released on November 10th titled “Longboix”.
