DIME Denver caught up with one of our newest students Emily Wedel, who is studying the Commercial Music Performance (Vocals) degree program.
What is your background in music and education?
I’ve been singing since I could make noise and joined every choral program I could so I was very classically trained.
How did you find out about DIME Denver?
DIME visited my school and I wasn’t very interested. I wanted to be a choir teacher so I thought this program wasn’t for me, but a friend convinced to tag along to the meeting (he wasn’t even planning on going to college)
What made you choose to apply to study with us?
After going to the meeting I was interested but still was not convinced it was for me so I went to the open house and I fell in love with the staff and the atmosphere.
What are your short and/or longer term academic and career goals?
I just want to get a degree in something I love so I have fun everyday instead of going to “work”.
What do you find most rewarding about your studies so far?
It’s a concert every day not like any other boring school, I get to work with and perform with other talented yet growing musicians.
What do you find most challenging about your studies and how do you plan to overcome that challenge?
DIME is giving me everything I need to develop my own style in my own way. The only thing standing between me and success is myself.
Who are some of your music / industry / entrepreneurial influences?
Adele because we have a similar range and style (my mom always tells people I’m going to be the next Adele).
