Can this program help me plan my own career as a musician?
Yes. MSU Denver at DIME has created a culture of encouragement and access to opportunities and resources to help students prepare for a lifelong career in music through creating realistic and achievable goals. Even the general education courses are designed this way. For example, your math class may include an assignment to budget for your next record. Your Public Speaking class may include an award acceptance speech, and your English class might include an assignment to write an artist or band biography. Every student also must complete a capstone project which requires students to submit a plan of action for when they graduate. This program has been designed to be relevant to your journey to becoming a professional in the music industry.
What other opportunities are available to me at DIME?
Our students receive several performance opportunities for paid and unpaid gigs in the area. Also, MSU Denver at DIME students are able to audition and perform alongside well-known musicians through our masterclass program. Our students have the opportunity to collaborate on original music with their peers and with members of our industry professional faculty. Every student has the opportunity to audition original material for DIME’s annual student album, DIME Sessions, which will be recorded and released through the school’s affiliate record label, Original 1265 Recordings, and distributed nationwide by Caroline Records.
What gear/equipment do I need to do this course?
DIME has a ton of gear and equipment on site available for students at all times, however, practicing at home is very important! If you are a guitarist or bass player, you will need your own guitar. If you are a songwriter, you should own your instrument of choice – ie. piano, keyboard or guitar. If you are a drummer, access to a drum kit is necessary. DIME makes our rehearsal spaces available for students Monday through Friday from 10am-6pm, depending on availability.
