DIME Presents: Interview With Whippoorwill

“Whippoorwill is cathartic, experiential folk-rock written by two-boots-in-the-dirt country girls and delivered across a percussive landscape of distorted guitar, banjo, and three-part harmonies”

This month, we are celebrating the end of Women’s history month with an all female fronted line up featuring some of our favorite ladies on Colorado’s folk/rock/Americana scene. DIME Presents is a night dedicated to showcasing music we love, so it’s always a killer line up. It’s FREE and it’s going to rock, so put this Friday (March 31st) in yah diaries kids! We caught up with one of the awesome bands due to play… Whippoorwill.

How did Whippoorwill begin?
My (Alysia’s) guitar was stolen at SXSW and I was wandering the streets mad and a little drunk when I met Staci singing on her east Austin porch. We traded songs into the morning and later named our band for the Whippoorwill calling all night in the tree above us. Tobias brought drums and a third-part harmony to the band in November 2016 and there has been no slowing down since.

Describe your sound in 3 words?
Cathartic, experiential folk-rock.

What’s your favorite venue to play in Denver?
The Pepsi Center 😉

What is your pet peeve?
Being interrupted… or food crunching sounds.

Tell us about your next shows/releases/adventures?
We are just about to head out for a series of shows at Tree Fort Music Festival in Boise. It’s such a sweet festival and we couldn’t be more honored to be playing. We’re back home for the Fort Collins’ awesome city-wide music fest FoCoMX and then on the road to the magical lands of Southern Colorado/ New Mexico with our amazing friend Awna Teixera, and then West Texas and Austin area with pals, The Lonesome Heroes. AND THEN SUMMER TIME MADNESS!

What did you want to be when you were 10 years old?
Staci: The first woman in the men’s world cup.
Alysia: A professional rodeo cowgirl with lots of fringe clothing.
Tobias: A power ranger (or red tailed hawk).

Who is your musical hero or heroine?
Staci: Neil Young
Tobias: Levon Helm
Alysia: Carrie Ann Hearst

Finish this sentence….
Music is best feeling I’ve ever had.
